I have noticed lately that there are alot of concerns about life insurance policies and the fact that you have to keep them for at least a year or whatever the term says before you can actually bank on the policy. So if you get a life insurance policy and you die in 2 weeks, then you do not get the life insurance payoff because you died too fast (no matter what the reason is). It is important to check out the life insurance company you are going to be dealing with on this aspect.

It's probably because no-one has told him he needs one. With new investment clients I always check whether they have an estate plan and adequate life insurance. People under 50 often have neither. When I tell them that this is really important they do go right out and get it done.

I enjoy your posts.

I see several death certificates a month while running a funeral trust. I'm always fascinated by the details and information it contains, and the differences from different states and countries. And I also have that dead bodies book you mentioned. It's amazing what we've done to bodies throughout history. Saw a show on TV recently explaining what happened to Abraham Lincoln after he was shot, what happened in the hours before he died, how they moved him from city to city for open casket funerals, finally entombed, and then the remains were stolen and hidden in Illinois. Just one of the strange things that happens...

There are 3 others (parent/child living near one another) in my neighborhood that I know about. We love it, but you are very right - it isn't for everyone.

We have something in common. My Husband and I live right next door to my father-in-law. This has been a tremendous blessing for both my Husband and my Father-in-Law. My Mother-in-Law passed away about 4 months after we moved in and although that was a very sad time for everyone there is a silver lining. My Husband and his father are closer than they have ever been. They see each other every day and often watch football or wrestling together on Saturday or Sunday night. If Dad needs anything we are right next door and vice-versa. This arrangement isn't for every family but we are certainly enjoying it.
